Group exhibition
25th Anniversary Exhibition
Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Gabriele Münter, Vasily Kandinsky, Josef Hoffmann and others
Austrian and German fine and decorative arts from the permanent collection, filling the whole museum building.
Marking the museum’s founding in 2001, the show draws mainly on its own holdings of early twentieth-century Austrian and German paintings, drawings, metalwork and design, along with some recent acquisitions. Klimt’s Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (1907) is a centerpiece, shown with works by Schiele, Münter, Kandinsky, Hoffmann and Marianne Brandt.
It is the first time the galleries are open since the building’s restoration, and it comes ahead of the museum’s announced merger with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2028.
