Milton ResnickEarth, Elephant, and New Bride

Milton Resnick & Pat Passlof Foundation

Sep 18, 2026 – Jul 17, 2027 Lower East Side

Three large mid-career oil paintings by Resnick, shown together for the first time: New Bride, Earth and Elephant.

The show pairs New Bride (1963), lent by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Earth (1976), lent by MoMA, and Elephant (1979), from the Foundation’s collection. Though Resnick was an abstractionist, not a landscape painter, each canvas works as a self-contained world with an even, steady surface.

New Bride, painted a few blocks away on Spruce Street, marks his turn to “no strokes anymore, just paint”; it looks white but was originally blue and built up in layers. Earth and Elephant use a darker palette. A catalogue with an essay by Geoffrey Dorfman is on sale.
