Vojtěch KovaříkIn Between
Sep 9 – Oct 24, 2026 Tribeca
Monumental and chamber paintings, terracotta reliefs and glass sculpture of stone-like figures drawn from myth and Socialist Realist imagery.
Kovařík treats classical mythology as an open vocabulary, blending the frontal poses of Greek votive figures and friezes with the blocky, hypertrophied forms of Eastern European war memorials and Socialist Realism, plus traces of Picasso and Léger.
Kovařík, who began in ceramics and sculpture, mixes sand into his paint and deepens the shadows so the figures seem hewn from stone; two terracotta reliefs, including Keeper of the Grain, carry that weight into clay.
