Annie Hémond HotteThe Divine Comedy: Hell

Oct 15 – Nov 14, 2026 Tribeca

Opening soon

New oil paintings by Annie Hémond Hotte reimagining Dante’s Inferno as dense, patterned scenes of its vices and guides.

Hémond Hotte’s first solo show with the gallery takes Dante’s Divine Comedy as its subject, picturing Hell as a descending hourglass whose circles each take the form of a vice: lust as wind, gluttony as muddy rain, down to the icy lake of Cocytus where a mechanical, three-faced Lucifer is frozen waist-high.

Other canvases render the leopard, lion and she-wolf that block Dante’s path in the poem’s opening, each patterned into its own wooded scene. Built up slowly from countless individual marks in oil, the pointillist-like surfaces echo the poem’s own structure of threaded, mirrored cantos.
