Inma BarreroMOTHERS
Eight large standing sculptures of mother figures, each strung together from hundreds of handmade ceramic beads, in Barrero’s first show with the gallery.
All eight sculptures are shown for the first time, each standing for a maternal figure from prehistoric, ancient or modern cultures, with names such as Pachamama, Hariti and Isis. The beads recall rosaries, Greek worry beads and Buddhist prayer beads.
Barrero makes them from porcelain, earthenware and terracotta mixed with soils from Japan, Mexico and Spain, then links them with metal wire, a nod to the Spanish lañado and Japanese kintsugi methods of mending ceramics.
