Baldwin LeeNew York (1975–1979)
Sep 17 – Nov 7, 2026 Midtown
Large black-and-white photographs of New York made with a view camera between 1975 and 1979, on view for the first time.
Lee grew up in Chinatown and studied with Minor White at MIT and Walker Evans at Yale. After his 1975 MFA he kept returning to New York with a 4 × 5 view camera, shooting at dawn, often in winter, on near-empty streets.
Worn storefronts, pavements and parked cars, from Wall Street to Times Square and Queens, stand in for the people who seldom appear.
