Hans ArpHeads or Tails
Hans Arp’s late Threshold sculptures, flat cut-out forms made from 1958 on, shown with late bronzes and rarely seen works on paper.
The first New York show of Arp’s work in nearly fifteen years centers on the Threshold sculptures of his last decade, which carry his cut-paper method into space: flat, open forms that change as a visitor walks around them. Among them is Heads or Tails (1959), which names the show.
Rarely shown works on paper, including Diptychs and watercolors from the 1960s, and bronzes shown in the round surround them, in a display modeled on his studio in Locarno. Alexis Lowry organized it with the Stiftung Arp.
