Cannupa Hanska LugerAmerican Traditional
Sep 9 – Oct 24, 2026 SoHo
New matte-black sculptures of ceramic and salvaged objects on the history of westward expansion, centered on a life-size skinned bison.
Luger’s ceramics, of ironstone clay blackened with sumi ink and flame, replicate a skinned pronghorn, a stack of bison skulls and a severed Sharps 1874 rifle, set among Buffalo nickels, Pulaski axes, railroad spikes and concertina wire. In the title work, a bison with a split skull and muscles embroidered in rows of deadstock yarn rests on a burned dining table.
Luger, born on the Standing Rock Reservation and based in New Mexico, opens the gallery’s new space at 10 Greene Street with the show.
