New paintings of faceless, cropped figures in New York apartments, laundromats, bodegas and street scenes.
Curtiss paints stylized figures whose faces stay hidden, using cropped views of isolated body parts to build scenes of observation and sly humor. Set around New York interiors, shops and streets, the works take up identity, gender and aging, with a pervading sense that nothing can be trusted as real.
In Makeover (2026), two women seen from behind wear fur coats, sunglasses and postoperative compression masks. This is the gallery’s first presentation of her work in New York.
