Brice MardenI Am Plane Image

Gagosian, West 21st Street

Sep 15 – Dec 12, 2026 Chelsea

The first full survey of Marden’s paintings in New York in twenty years, spanning six decades, with loans from museums and his estate.

Organized with the Estate of Brice Marden, the show runs from Nebraska (1966), a painting he kept at home all his life, through the brighter palette of Summer Table (1972–73) to late canvases such as Nemesis (2009–20). Loans come from the Art Institute of Chicago and the Whitney, and some works have rarely or never been shown.

Many surfaces show his method of adding beeswax and turpentine to oil paint, laid on in layers.
