Tyson ReederSlurpee Machine
Bright, fluid paintings of nightlife, spandex-clad musicians and abandoned malls, worked with nail polish, glitter and marker, plus drawings on note cards.
Reeder’s scenes belong to no fixed era: figures in spandex bodysuits pose and play instruments, cars speed through fluorescent coral reefs and escalators climb through deserted malls. Glitter, pom-poms, thumbprints and the imprint of peeled corrugated cardboard turn up on the surfaces.
The paintings look to Pattern and Decoration, Florine Stettheimer and 1980s graphic design, and grow from his constant drawing on note cards, some of which are shown too.
