Johan OrellanaRemnants of Forking Paths

BRIC

Oct 8 – Dec 12, 2026 Fort Greene

Photographs and collages on Ecuadorian migration to Spain and New York, made with family archives and found materials.

Orellana looks at the wave of Ecuadorian migration to New York and Spain after the country’s economic crisis of the late 1990s and early 2000s. The installation combines photographs made in Castilla-La Mancha and Machala with collages built from family snapshots, religious and pre-Columbian imagery, and historical stamps.

He cuts, resizes and layers images, treating the photograph as material rather than neutral record. Belonging emerges as something rebuilt through memory and movement. Orellana was a BRIClab resident in 2024–2025.
