Solo exhibition
Yuan Yuan
Sep 9 – Oct 24, 2026 Tribeca
New paintings of decaying Japanese bathhouses and hot springs, painted wet-on-wet, in the Berlin-based artist’s first show in the United States.
Painted wet-on-wet, Yuan’s scenes of public baths and hot springs in decay, with drained pools, cracked tile and overgrown branches, seem to melt back into color up close. Clack-Clack sets a vintage Western beach scene as a mosaic inside an empty bathhouse; the triptych Driftscape adds pines after old Chinese ink painting.
In Slip, sea creatures from a wet market tumble through a composition borrowed from Bruegel’s The Fall of the Rebel Angels (1562).
