Kenneth Victor YoungWorks 1970–1972

Early-1970s “orb” paintings by the Washington Color School painter: soft-edged forms floating in fields of poured, stained acrylic.
Young (1933–2017) poured thinned acrylic onto unprimed canvas laid on the floor, letting it soak into the weave. In the orb paintings, rounded, soft-edged shapes of varying density hang in fields of color, their rhythm linked to the jazz that filled his studio and their molecular look to his early study of physics.
Overlooked in early accounts of the Washington Color School, he worked alongside its painters after moving to Washington in 1964. The show is organized with Edward Tyler Nahem Fine Art.
