Stephanie LuccheseNuns fret not
Sep 18 – Nov 7, 2026 Lower East Side
Paintings of headless figures in twilit, woodland-like liminal scenes where foreground and background dissolve together.
Lucchese’s paintings flatten the usual hierarchy of subject and setting, merging figure and ground in dusky, dreamlike woods inhabited by headless bodies at rest.
The scenes draw on gothic and decadent literature, mixing sensual leisure with a quiet sense of decay. The show, Lucchese’s New York debut, takes its title from Wordsworth’s sonnet on finding freedom within constraint, with a curatorial text by Thais Bignardi Engstrom.
