Tanya MerrillLand animal, house animal

New paintings by Tanya Merrill of the animals, plants and family life around her Hudson Valley studio, in her third solo show at the gallery.

Merrill thins her oil paint and works it with graphite on linen to keep the quick, fluid feel of watercolor sketches made outdoors. The paintings show a marsh hawk that passes her studio window each morning, a riderless horse at night, a milking cow, a persimmon orchard, a couple asleep with their cat and a mother with her child, threaded with Americana and references to older art.
