More than fifty paintings, drawings, watercolors, prints and photographs by Asian American artists in California, from LACMA’s collection.

The show looks at artist collectives formed in California during the Exclusion Era, when anti-Asian laws and wartime incarceration shaped daily life. Groups such as the East West Art Society, the Shaku-Do-Sha, the Japanese Camera Pictorialists of California and the Los Angeles Oriental Artists’ Group organized exchanges and exhibitions from the Bay Area to Little Tokyo.

Drawn from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, including recent acquisitions, it is co-curated by Shannon Vittoria and ShiPu Wang and is part of LACMA’s Local Access series with Art Bridges.
