Sat, Oct 17Artist walkthrough with Patrick Wilson and Michael Reafsnyder, 2–3 pm
New hard-edge abstract paintings built from dozens of thin layers of opaque and translucent acrylic, by the Los Angeles painter Patrick Wilson.
Wilson pulls ultra-thin films of pure color across the canvas one at a time, letting each shape and hue answer the last, and names the finished paintings by free association. The surfaces shift between flatness and depth.
Free Lemons stacks acid yellow, sky blue, gold and orange; Szechuan Food sets browns and hot pinks against thin teal and purple borders; Analog Music turns sound into color and geometry.
