New paintings, ceramic vessels and collages from the third chapter of Waddell’s imagined feminist utopia, Sheness Society, in her first solo show with the gallery.

Since 2022 Waddell has painted Sheness Society, a commune of women who garden, gather flowers, paint and make clothes, all sharing the single name Sheness. This chapter turns to their gardens and living quarters, with many scenes set on the threshold between room and garden.

The paintings borrow from Bonnard, Matisse, Whistler, Lucian Freud, Japanese prints and the Arts and Crafts movement, mixed with studies of the artist’s own garden.
