Has the myth been shattered
A free collection show on media, history and memory, built around new acquisitions by Guadalupe Rosales and Hank Willis Thomas.
More than a dozen works shown at the museum for the first time join collection pieces by Barbara Kruger, Glenn Ligon, Mickalene Thomas and Andy Warhol, across six decades. The title comes from Rosales’s lit, two-way-mirrored frame around a Los Angeles Times front page printed after the 1992 uprising.
Many of the works, from the 1980s and 1990s, answer the newspapers and magazines of their day and the stories they told about race and belonging. Curated by Jen Vanegas Rocha.
