Two films by Saodat Ismailova, shown as a site-specific installation at Western Front in Vancouver, on light, memory and myth in Central Asia.
Two films by Ismailova, Melted into the Sun (2024) and To the Throat of the Sun (2026), are shown together in an installation made for the site. They treat light as a political and spiritual force through which history, memory and myth are remade, drawing on Central Asian oral traditions and cosmologies.
The show is presented and produced by Western Front in Vancouver, with a commissioned text by Quinn Latimer. It follows Ismailova’s 2024 exhibition at JOAN and is curated by JOAN’s Suzy Halajian.
