Paintings drawn from the artist’s childhood memories of Compton, the legacy of Leimert Park, and travels in Europe.

Hodges paints labor, community rituals and solitary moments in black and jewel tones, building figures out of dark grounds and blending observation of present-day life with techniques inherited from the Renaissance. The works here draw on his Compton boyhood, the history of Leimert Park and his journeys through Europe.

Curated by Bridget R. Cooks, the show is one of three presented at once in Los Angeles, alongside A Theater of Miracles at CAAM and A Theater of Passions at the Getty Center, and is part of the CAAM at A+P collaboration.
