Escape to the Desert

Paintings of desert canyons, mountains and valleys by historic and contemporary artists, focused on color and light.

The show gathers historic and contemporary painters around the American desert: sun-washed canyons, rugged mountains, wide valleys and big skies. It dwells on the desert’s palette of vermilion, ochre, coral, sage and turquoise, and the violet shadows of late afternoon.

The gallery also ties the desert to the Western films of Hollywood’s golden age. Nine artists are featured, including Peter Adams, Harry Linder, Mian Situ and Tim Solliday.
