Two large gilded floral works on handmade paper, the first in a new series.
The series takes its name from James Baldwin’s 1953 essay “Stranger in the Village” and uses flowers as stand-ins for the body. Waddell builds the round, four-foot pieces from handmade paper and pastiglia, a Renaissance relief technique, finished in silver and 22-karat gold leaf.
