Sanjay VoraA Sea of Time and Space
Paintings of domestic scenes and inherited identity, each overlaid with a textured, translucent veil made through a ritual excavation.
Vora draws on an American upbringing shaped by North Indian classical music and by Hindu and atheist ideas. His dreamlike, cinematic paintings of home life and inherited identity deal with memory, loss, impermanence and cultural displacement.
Each image emerges slowly from beneath a physical veil, built up from a process of excavation and settled over the painted surface.
