Ceramic sculptures made from coarse local clays, and paintings built from crushed ceramic shards, kaolin and glacial debris.
Iburg’s fourth solo show at the gallery pairs two bodies of work about erosion and the way material accumulates history. The new sculptures respond to fractured limestone gathered along the Mississippi River bluffs, and are built from coarse, locally sourced clays that balance deliberate composition against natural chaos.
The paintings are made on wood from studio and natural detritus: crushed ceramic shards, unfired kaolin, glacial debris and acrylic binders, showing the subtle color and texture of salvaged materials.
