Two-person exhibition
Abiogenesis
Philip Beesley and Casey Curran
Sculptures by Philip Beesley and Casey Curran whose cellular lacework, scaffolding and glowing, moving parts suggest life emerging from inert matter.
Beesley and Curran build artificial structures that gesture toward living form: latticed material standing in for membrane, repeating cellular scaffolds suggesting skeletons, and lights that pulse like something organic. Mechanical elements seem to breathe, bloom and reach outward.
The two sculptors draw on myth and science alike to explore the threshold between dead matter and life, treating abiogenesis—the emergence of living organisms from non-living material—as both a scientific question and a sculptural one.
