Vishnu’s Cosmic Ocean
The largest ancient bronze found in Southeast Asia, a colossal reclining Vishnu from Angkor, on the final stop of its international tour.
Nearly twenty feet long when complete, the Vishnu lay in an eleventh-century temple built on an island in a vast reservoir at Angkor. Rediscovered in 1936 and recently conserved, it is on loan from the National Museum of Cambodia; research shows it was once gilded.
Maps, videos and a film by praCh Ly about life around the reservoir today trace the link between water and power in the Khmer kingdom.
