Photographs from different years of weddings, labour, processions, carnival and sea in a small Italian town, seen through recurring “bubbles” of light.
Antuono’s photographs, gathered from different years and film grains, move from newlyweds dancing under an overpass to a woman tying tobacco leaves, an angel with cloth wings, carnival figures, religious processions and a lone palm before a stormy sea.
The recurring bubble of light becomes a way of speaking about how people live and endure, and about real life set against posed life. Marisa De Quattro wrote the text and Luisa Briganti curated the show, part of Rome Art Week.
