Gérard GarousteBrisure
New paintings, drawings and sculptures from the past four years, built around the Kabbalistic idea of the breaking of the vessels.
Garouste takes the Kabbalistic notion of the “breaking of the vessels” as a way of reading and painting: forms and words fragment and shift, opening new associations. Figures stretch and distort in saturated, theatrical scenes drawn from Talmudic texts, myth and literature.
The centerpiece is the triptych L’Amandier (2026), 3.5 metres wide, shown with the bronzes Guer (2025) and L’Arbre de Vie (2024). Works on paper from the Flammarion book Brisure, by Pierre-Henry Salfati, are shown for the first time.
