Large oil paintings of the artist’s friends as heroes, drawing on epic, fantasy and military painting.

Vaguelsy continues his series of portraits of friends, among them Lucas, Iouri, Ashley and Ulrich, casting them as protagonists of a contemporary epic. He borrows from antique epic, fantasy and martial history painting, so that everyday life meets the sacred.

An equestrian portrait of a young woman, with a Napoleonic saddle cloth and a burning castle behind, is set beside a portrait of Ulrich with a small chest wound that recalls a pietà. The paintings are in oil on linen.
