Robert KushnerSummer Sun: Open my Heart
Galerie Nathalie Obadia, Cloître Saint-Merri
Sep 5 – Oct 31, 2026 Marais
Twelve pictures of flowers and wild plants from 2019–2025, in ink, oil and gold leaf, many begun during a summer in southern France.
Eleven works on Japanese washi paper and one painting on canvas. Several began in Sérignan in 2019, where Kushner, a founder of the 1970s Pattern and Decoration movement, spent three weeks drawing the wild plants around a garage studio; he finished them in New York.
He draws in India ink with a sharpened stick or brushes on thinned oil paint, then adds gold leaf, drawing on Rinpa painting, Persian miniatures and textile patterns.
