Guillermo KuitcaChapelle
Oct 15, 2024 – Dec 31, 2027 Marais
A wall painting made on site by the Argentine artist Guillermo Kuitca in the chapel of the Hôtel Salé, in his angular “cubistoid” style.
Invited by the museum, Kuitca, born in Buenos Aires in 1961 and still based there, painted straight onto the chapel walls a web of crossing lines, like folds in a map, that turns the room into a new pictorial space. He has worked in this cubism-derived manner since his Argentine pavilion at the 2007 Venice Biennale.
He casts the piece as a meeting with Picasso, borrowing the image of art history as a baggage carousel from his earlier paintings.
