Andy WarholLa ligne et l’image

Musée du Luxembourg

Sep 16, 2026 – Jan 10, 2027

About 150 drawings alongside paintings, silkscreen prints, photographs and archival documents trace Warhol’s lifelong drawing practice.

Spanning a 1942 self-portrait to 1986 acrylic studies for The Last Supper, the show argues that drawing, not just silkscreen, ran through Warhol’s whole career. Early portraits, caricatures and advertising illustrations trace his path from commercial artist to painter, while later drawings of faces, handwriting and gay iconography connect directly to his paintings and prints.

Organized in five thematic sections, the exhibition also examines the techniques Warhol devised for repeating and reproducing images — stamping, transfer lines, stencils and collage — and includes rare studio documents from The Factory. It is organized by the GrandPalaisRmn and curated by art historian Alain Cueff.
