Shim Moon SeupPerspective d'argile

Musée Cernuschi

Oct 20 – Dec 13, 2026 Monceau

Opening soon

A 2002 clay installation by Shim Moon Seup, set among the museum’s Han and Tang dynasty terracotta funerary objects in the Buddha room.

Perspective d’argile (2002) is the museum’s annual autumn invitation to a contemporary artist to take over the Buddha room. Shim Moon Seup, born in 1943 in Tongyeong, Korea, shapes clay plates with curves and folds, sometimes to the point of breaking, to bring out the material’s own force.

Placed among Han and Tang terracotta tomb figures, the work sets human intervention beside the force of matter in archaeological objects. It is shown for the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Korea.
