Garments worn by artists from the late 19th to mid-20th century, shown with paintings, sculptures, prints and photographs.

The show grows out of the 2020 rediscovery of Antoine Bourdelle’s own clothing. It looks at how artists, men and women, staged themselves through dress, from the black coats and smocks of the late 19th century to the outfits of the early 20th.

Rarely seen garments by figures including Klimt, Rosa Bonheur, Foujita and Sonia Delaunay appear alongside portraits and other works, tracing clothing as group badge, manifesto, gender play and personal signature.
