Unused film footage and personal archives from some fifty filmmakers and artists across the Mediterranean and France, shown publicly for the first time.

Conceived by filmmakers Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige, the project asked dozens of artists and directors from Algeria, Egypt, France, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia to hand over sequences they shot but never used — cut for reasons of editing, politics or censorship — along with an account of why the footage still stays with them.

Presented with the Centre Pompidou’s Cinémathèque idéale des banlieues du monde, the exhibition is the first chapter of an archive meant to keep growing, raising questions of what gets shown, what is left offscreen, and how forgotten images and memories can be brought back into circulation.
