Ladji DiabyGodspeed You Black Emperor
Sep 11 – Nov 28, 2026 Belleville
Sculptures assembled from found, mass-produced everyday objects, staged in the Belleville space like a childhood bedroom revisited in memory.
Diaby gathers ordinary manufactured objects, many made in Chinese factories and brought by underpaid delivery workers, and recombines them into sculptures set directly on the gallery floor. Cupboards, a bed and sweet jars call up a child’s room, along with memories of his mother covering furniture in marbled paper.
The accompanying text, a poetic essay by Eva S. Augustine and Noah Alifeni, casts the artist as a herald who gives objects back a meaning stripped from them.
