Giovanni BoscoDottore di tutto #3
About a dozen unseen works by the Sicilian artist, dense with hearts, robots and blades in red-saturated compositions.
This is christian berst’s third solo exhibition of Giovanni Bosco (1948–2009), a former shepherd and marble-quarry worker whose psychosis after his brothers’ murder by the mafia led to psychiatric hospitalization and a year in prison.
In Castellamare del Golfo, near Palermo, he painted walls and scrap materials in an invented visual language of hybrid homunculi, musclebound figures, votive limbs and glyph-like signs, often awash in red. Scholar Eva Di Stefano called him a thinker in images; his work is now held in major art brut collections, including those of Antoine de Galbert and Bruno Decharme.
