Koether’s first solo show at the gallery: new paintings built around the apocryphal text La Chasse spirituelle.
The show grows out of Koether’s long fascination with La Chasse spirituelle, a legendary text credited to Arthur Rimbaud whose authorship has never been settled, and marks a return to Paris, a city she works with as material as much as a setting.
It brings together a new group of paintings that mix images, writing and references to earlier art. The gallery stresses that they are made to be looked at slowly and in person, a search Koether likens to a “spiritual hunt.”
