Zeng Yi
More than twenty portraits of elderly people and children in rural China, by a leading Chinese photographer.
Zeng Yi has photographed the parts of China left at the margins of rapid industrialisation since the 1970s, and was a key figure in Chinese photography around the turn of the millennium. The show presents over twenty portraits of old people and children, rural villages and small everyday gestures.
Made over decades, the pictures follow a quiet, resilient humanity far from politics and displays of prosperity, with attention to the spiritual life of ordinary people.
