Waterdrop paintings from the 1980s to the 2010s, centered on the Recurrence series, in varied materials and scales.

The show follows Kim’s mature work, when he turned to a more tactile surface, tried different grounds such as sand and Korean paper, and began painting larger. The Recurrence series, begun in the mid-1980s, sits alongside key Waterdrop paintings from the same decades.

Kim found the motif by splashing water on the backs of canvases in a studio outside Paris, and came to use its repetition to work through memories of the Korean War. This is the gallery’s third solo show of his work, following his 2025 retrospective at the MMCA in Seoul.
