Becky SussNight House
Jack Shainman Gallery, Lafayette Street
Sep 10 – Oct 31, 2026 Chinatown
New paintings of imagined, figure-less domestic interiors and a moonlit exterior, rendered in blacks, greys and deep blues.
Suss paints remembered and invented rooms—wallpapered hallways, shelves of books and trinkets, windows onto gardens and snow—using a muted night palette in place of her usual bright colors. No figures appear, but distorted architecture and warped perspective suggest presence and memory rather than literal description.
Night Garden, showing a house lit by moonlight, sets the scene for interiors viewers seem to eavesdrop on. The show follows Suss’s 2024–25 traveling exhibition The Dutch House, which moved from the ICA Chattanooga to the Baker Museum and Cheekwood Estate and Gardens.
