Friedrichs Pontone

Oct 9 – Nov 14, 2026 Tribeca

New paintings from the Proposition series, made with carbon nanotubes that fluoresce in the short-wave infrared.

Each work in Cohen’s ongoing Proposition series is built from countless accumulated gestures, meant as a record of staying present. The paintings, on heavy Arches paper and on security blankets, combine pigment, gold, iron and wax with separated carbon nanotubes that Cohen develops and tests himself in laboratory processes.

Under certain optical conditions the nanotubes emit light beyond the range of human vision, so the paintings stay present even when unseen. The press release places the work among minimal, Light and Space, Mono-ha and Dansaekhwa practices.
