Ward ShelleyExtinction Scenarios
Ward Shelley with Doug Paulson
Painted diagrams and a new kinetic sculpture of archive boxes by Ward Shelley and Douglas Paulson, on the ways humanity might end.
Shelley and Paulson, who collaborate, respond to fears about dangerous technologies with wry, information-packed painted drawings. The centerpiece is a branching tumbleweed diagram of extinction scenarios drawn from university research, speculative fiction and the internet; another diagram, Free Speech, takes up the bumper sticker.
A new sculpture stacks Archive boxes six feet high, topped by a chair rocking on two legs; the box labels list conspiracies, warnings and misinformation. It is their first solo show at Freight+Volume, following The Last Library IV at Art Basel Miami Beach.
