Eunha KimAre We Home Yet?
Paintings and ceramics on identity and belonging, mixing Korean Minhwa folk imagery with Western religious painting.
The show gathers paintings made in the two years since Kim finished her MFA at Hunter College, along with recent ceramics. Recurring UFOs drift into familiar scenes, playing on “alien” as both extraterrestrial and immigrant, alongside tal-mask faces, faceless figures and gatherings of women.
Kim joins the compositions of Old Master religious painting, which she studied in Rome, with Korean Minhwa folk imagery. The ceramics give some of these figures physical form. It is her first New York solo exhibition.
