The Wallace Collection at War
Apr 15 – Oct 25, 2026 Marylebone
A free display of catalogues, archives and artworks from two Anglo-Soviet exhibitions held at Hertford House in 1942.
With the collection evacuated in 1942, the empty galleries hosted Artists Aid Russia, over 900 works by living artists sold to raise funds for Clementine Churchill’s Red Cross appeal, and Twenty-Five Years of Progress, a photomontage show designed by Ernő Goldfinger.
The display draws on revisited archives, surviving catalogues and works shown at the time, including a catalogue signed by Winston Churchill. It accompanies the museum’s Churchill painting exhibition.
