New large-scale collages of paper, wool and lace, many in mirrored vertical compositions inspired by Japanese garden ponds.

Hopton made these collages after major changes in her life, letting memory and loss take shape in colour, surface and composition. A trip to Japan in early 2025 prompted the series, especially the still, reflective ponds of its gardens.

The tall vertical works divide into two symmetrical halves that mirror each other, with flowers, bold patterns and varied textures suggesting a pond’s surface disturbed by ripples. Wool, lace and sequins are layered onto painted paper.
