Ha Chong-Hyun
Sep 24 – Nov 7, 2026 Marylebone
A survey of six decades of abstract paintings by the Seoul-based artist, from folded canvases to burned and wired surfaces.
The show surveys Ha’s experiments with painting as an object, beginning with an early folded and rippled canvas from the late 1960s that asks where a picture’s surface and support begin and end.
In the 1970s he burned thick impasto surfaces and attached coiled springs or barbed wire, responding to South Korea’s martial law and military rule and to the scarcity of materials. Ha was born in 1935.
