Dana Awartani

Lisson Gallery, Lisson Street

Nov 19, 2026 – Feb 13, 2027 Marylebone

Opening soon

A new exhibition of craft-based works by Dana Awartani, in which darned holes stand for places damaged or destroyed.

Awartani works with traditional art-making techniques to address cultural sustainability and the destruction of monuments around the world. She darns holes in her works, treating the punctures as stand-ins for places violated in war, colonialism or terrorism.

The mending also recalls older traditions of repairing and revering objects, favouring repair over replacement. The show follows her presentation for Saudi Arabia at the 2026 Venice Biennale.
